Heavy winds blew in off the ocean, something that would bode of the strong winter to come. Trees shook in fear, their leaves long ago having fallen from them. Evergreens stood out stark against the backdrop of the skeleton forest closest to the sea, a reminder of the survival of the strongest. Those willing to adapt would carry on, while those reluctant to do so would whither and die like the maples. Adaptation was no stranger to the woman walking along, toes in the sand. After all, there had been many changes occurring to her during her teen years. It had happened to many, and had happened quickly; spreading like a virus through the La Push lands. She wasn't naive enough to think there was no catalyst. Things like this didn't just happen all on their own. Stories had been told to her people as children, tales woven about these mysterious "cold ones" who would steal the life of humans and leave them for dead. Their existence was combated by her kind, and had been for centuries. The mere thought of them made her skin crawl, shivers erupting over her over heated body. One of her perks of her kind was that she never had to experience cold. Her body temperature was at deadly high levels for mere humans, which she was no longer. Due to this, it allowed her outfit to be only comprised of a pair of tribal print jean shorts and a tank top. Around her wrist rested her grandmother's heirloom; a silver bracelet inlaid with turquoise stones. The ring around her right middle finger was a silver feather wrapping around the appendage. She wore no shoes, for she had no need. The biting air didn't touch her. It wouldn't ever again. The waves once again caught her attention, and she heaved a sigh sounding akin to their ebb and flow. She was frustrated, hands clenched into fists, arms crossed over her chest. Inside her ribs, her heart fluttered like a bird. She was a mix of emotions, possibly more anxious than anything else. She had been spending a great deal of time alone recently, which was fine by her under normal circumstances. However, these were not normal. Her mother's distant behavior had recently spiraled out of control. It was like she didn't even see her own child anymore. Steel gray eyes looked right through the body of her own flesh and blood. Ever since Anuun had experienced the change, it had gotten progressively worse. It was like she was invisible. Her heart twisted in her chest, thinking of her mother practically alienating her simply because she had never experienced the lifestyle of her daughter. Sure, Anuun's natural aloofness didn't help the situation at all, but before the change at least her mother had been trying. Now it seemed like she had no care at all to forge a relationship with her strange, wild, free-spirited daughter. Taking a seat on one of the rocks least covered with damp moss, Anuun let her eyes gaze out over the ocean's vast expanse. It didn't help her drab mood of solidarity, making her feel even more small and insignificant. She wondered what the pack would think of her thoughts; of how utterly alone she felt in the world even with their presence occasionally inside her head. Did they even get a read on her at all? It wasn't likely. Unlike most teenage females, she didn't exactly understand her emotions as much. Her father had never been particularly affectionate when he was alive, and her mother... Well, she won't beat that dead horse again for the sake of her sanity. Wind blowing her hair, she closed her eyes and let the breeze carry away her funk. She felt grimy because of all this sullen thinking, and wanted to be rid of it for a while. That was why she had come here in the first place, after all. To be with her thoughts and the sounds of the lulling ocean. If only she didn't have to be alone all the time. |
